„Service provider of the future – Smart Homes“
Service Design lectureship at the School of Design, Schwäbisch Gmünd in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom
The project will focus on smart solutions in automatically homes. There have been first approaches for smart solutions but now due to the new technological developments during the last years a concrete market and the demand for offers that not just serve the needs of lead users but are available and affordable for everyone are coming up. The real user needs however are not identified yet and therefore a exciting field opens up that wants to be captured.
We are looking forward to our weeks and work with the students and report more in September.

New faces, Networking and a lot of fun with our service swaps at the SDN Conference, in Berlin
Our aim: Bringing new people together, giving them space to swap ideas and thoughts concerning Service Design and to create new communication keepers. Of course everything easy to digest, because our workshop took place right after lunch. Getting to know new people should be interesting and informative, but above all being fun. Face Rotation was the title of our workshop and as well our motto. Always four participants chatted with the help of a prepared deck of cards including questions, challenges and statements that should be discussed. By doing so they introduced themselves and their working areas to the other participants.
Every 15 minutes the participants rotated and therefore as well the faces. Within 60 minutes a number of inspiring discussions took place with happy and interesting faces and of course proud winners of a “service chip”.

Networking with service works at the SDN Conference in Berlin
From 13th to 15th October, service works will be at the Service Design Network Conference in Berlin. Each year, people interested in service design from various disciplines from all around the world meet to discuss and debate different service design topics.
This year’s conference theme is “Connecting the Dots (connect, share, enable)“ which is also our theme. Networking – connecting – is not always easy. Often there isn’t enough time between the many different lectures, you don’t know how to start a conversation, or perhaps you simply meet the "wrong" people. service works has been invited by the Service Design Network to help make networking easier, more fun and concurrently informative.
“Face Rotation“ is the name and motto of our workshop lead by Annika Hertz on the first day, the ‘Clients Day’. We make sure each participant will meet 10 new faces with service design related background, and not just a quick chat about the weather. At the same time, we will be placing “service swap stations“ throughout the conference where the participants can post exciting questions to get inspiring answers and interesting contacts from other attendees. (All the information will be available on our website afterwards.)
We are looking forward to arranging your new contacts and meeting new faces ourselves!

Successful Student trip to Norden
This project has been looking at optimising the internal communication of various departments of the City Council of Norden.
The council received us with high motivation, openness and looking forward to working together. Under the guidance of service works, students lead a two-day workshop with the employees of the city council, and lead a 15 person team through their work methodology.
On the first day, the internal processes were explored and analysed. Day two started with an interactive ideas session and focussed on the development of initial improvements. The students researched on location, investigated the employees and what their needs are, and got to know what it is like to work closely with a real client. We would like to thank the 30 highly motivated people for two exciting and insightful days!
